News New addition to Shannon ABC science team Sept 2012 Mr Bilal Aslam was recently awarded the position of MSc researcher with Shannon ABC. He received his Degree in Biotechnology from the Waterford Institute of Technology (WIT) and completed his BSc (H) in Applied Biology with Quality Management, also at WIT. Read full story

Society of Dairy Technology Autumn Conference Aug 2012 Dr Tim Yeomans attended the recent Society of Dairy technology Conference – ‘Towards a Sustainable Dairy Sector’. The event was held in UCC from the 5th to 7th September and began with a networking event on the evening of the first day in the staff common room. Read full story
Exploiting Industry and University Research, Development and Innovation: Why it Matters June 2012 Dr Tim Yeomans, Shannon ABC Centre Manager, attended the recent InterTradeIreland All Island Innovation Conference, hosted by NUIG. InterTradeIreland is an organisation which supports SMEs across the island to develop North/South trade and business development opportunities for the mutual benefit of both economies. The theme of the Conference was “Exploiting Industry and University Research, Development and Innovation: Why it Matters”. Read full story NutraMara Conference, 2012 May 2012 Dr Shane O’Connell and Mr Patrick Quille attended the recent NutraMara Conference, held in the Dublin on the 25 th and 26 th April. NutraMara, a consortium consisting of National University of Ireland Galway, University College Dublin, University College Cork, University of Ulster, Coleraine, University of Limerick and Teagasc Food Research Centre, Ashtown & Moorepark, was established as a multidisciplinary programme aimed at discovering bioactive components from Irish marine sources for use in added value functional food products. Dr Iain Gillespie to present keynote speech at Shannon ABC's Open Innovation Conference 2012 Feb 2012 Shannon ABC are delighted to announce Dr Iain Gillespie as the keynote speaker for Open Innovation 2012. Dr Gillespie was previously Head of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development’s (OECD) Science and Technology Policy Division, and prior to that the OECD’s Biotechnology Division (2001-2011). Dr Joanna Tierney awarded Technology Innovation Development Award from Science Foundation Ireland and Enterprise Ireland Jan 2012 Dr Joanna Tierney, based in Shannon ABC at IT Tralee has been awarded TIDA feasibility funding for a project to develop an anti-parasitic feed ingredient. New Role for Shannon ABC Researcher Sept 2011 Dr Tanya Beletskaya was recently awarded the position of Scientific Research Assistant with Shannon ABC. Tanya graduated from Belarus State University in 1996 with an honours degree in Biology and Chemistry Science and subsequently completed her PhD in Bioscience at the Belarus Institute for Epidemiology and Microbiology, Minsk.
